JASON Learning Argonauts Travel to Boston, MA, for the 2022 Argonaut Expedition!
ASHBURN, VA (August 26, 2022) — JASON Learning (JASON) is gearing up for the 2022 Argonaut program expedition to Boston, Massachusetts, one of the nation’s leading centers of technology, design, and innovation.
JASON Argonauts—named after the band of explorers in Greek mythology who accompanied the hero Jason in his quest to find the Golden Fleece—work directly with JASON scientists, engineers, and other inspiring STEM role models, assisting them on field expeditions, joining them in their lab or office, or being mentored by them remotely.
“JASON Argonaut expeditions are transformational for the students and teachers who participate. They return home with a new way of looking at the world and the possibilities for their future,” said Jude Kesl, JASON Argonaut Expedition Leader. “Some parents have seen such amazing growth and confidence in their students upon returning home that they have wondered if we returned the same person.”
The Argonaut team participating in JASON’s remote fall program in 2021 has worked remotely with JASON staff and STEM mentors to learn and practice the design thinking process over the past year. While doing so, Argonauts also practiced “thinking like an entrepreneur,” so they understand how innovations survive and endure in real-world markets.
“The Argo program with JASON Learning is absolutely amazing. I’ve seen numerous students and teachers attend these programs over the years, and the opportunity provided is directly related to leadership results, which impact the student, teacher, school, and community,” shared Mr. Ed Toman, Superintendent of Mercer County Schools.
In September 2022, the Argonauts will visit Boston, MA, and see how STEM professionals in cutting-edge industries use design and entrepreneurial thinking concepts daily to solve real-world problems and create the next “big thing.” Their three-day itinerary includes visits to world-renowned research institutes, multinational biotech manufacturers, and startups.
In addition, while in Boston, Argonauts have an opportunity to present and pitch their own products, services, and business models to mentors who will provide feedback and advice.
“Argonauts are the culmination of the adventure of learning. Students and teachers created design thinking projects, which they will share in Boston as they learn about cutting edge designs in industry and higher education,” said Eleanor Smalley, President & CEO of JASON Learning.
Since the founding of JASON over 30 years ago, over 900 students and teachers have participated in the Argonaut Program. Argonauts document and share their expedition experiences with the world and their communities back home through photos, videos, presentations, and events. Expeditions are shared via social media and the JASON website, generating awareness and excitement about their adventures.
