ASHBURN, VA (July 7, 2023)—The AASA/JASON STEM Certification, a prestigious accolade recognizing exceptional achievements in STEM education, has been awarded to London City Schools (OH) and Mercer County Schools (WV).

This certification signifies a district’s commitment to providing students with innovative and engaging learning experiences, equipping them with the skills needed for success in the 21st century. 

The AASA/JASON STEM Certification is a testament to the extraordinary efforts and dedication displayed by London City and Mercer County Schools’ educators, administrators, students, and community members. These school districts have gone above and beyond to create an environment that inspires and empowers the next generation of STEM leaders.

The JASON team provided this feedback from London City School’s application to become STEM Certified, which highlights their remarkable STEM programs:

  • London City Schools has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of STEM throughout the entire district. 
  • The diverse array of STEM offerings available to students at every grade level is truly outstanding. 
  • London City’s pioneering Student STEM Advisory group ensures that student-level feedback is integrated into decision-making processes, setting a groundbreaking example for student involvement in educational initiatives.

The JASON team provided this feedback regarding Mercer County School’s application to become STEM certified, which outlines their exceptional STEM opportunities:

  • Mercer County Schools has established pockets of excellence centered around high-quality, memorable, and engaging “event-style” STEM learning experiences. 
  • Their commitment to continuous growth in STEM education for all students throughout the district is commendable. 
  • The Mercer County Technical Education Center has played a pivotal role in identifying career pathways and creating comprehensive educational plans and support systems for students, facilitating a seamless transition to further education and training.

“Our educators and administrators returned from the 2023 JASON National Conference ready to explore new possibilities in STEM and passionate about continuing the work that made us a STEM district. I support them in implementing these innovative ideas in our schools. These districts’ recognition as STEM leaders will further enhance their reputation and provide even more opportunities for their students. The districts will retain their certification for three years, after which they will be required to participate in a re-credentialing process.
