JASON Learning’s National Conference (JNC) 2023, held on July 6-7 at the Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Leesburg, VA, brought together a diverse range of organizations and school districts from 10 states and Canada. With the theme “Pathways of Tomorrow: From Classroom to Career,” JNC 2023 explored the intersection of STEM education and real-world careers, higher education, and other pathways after high school graduation. Renowned experts, industry leaders, superintendents, and passionate educators united to empower students and foster a love for lifelong learning.
The conference featured inspiring keynote speakers who shared their expertise and experiences. Vernon Green Jr., Founder & CEO of G’Cubed, Inc., emphasized the importance of cybersecurity, while Brandi Harleaux, CEO of South Post Oak Recycling Center, discussed the recycling industry and its potential connections with K-12 education.
Hamza Wardere, Co-Founder of Everyday Investors, shared his journey as a real estate investor and entrepreneur, emphasizing the need for entrepreneurship skills, and B. Scott Swann, CEO of Rank One Computing, explored the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the future workforce.
Dr. Lorie Karnath, President & Co-Founder of Next Breath, highlighted the significance of science in various professions, and Dr. Bernadine Futrell, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Equity and Discretionary Grants and Support Services at the US Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, shed light on the U.S. Department of Education’s efforts to enhance STEM education.
Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of breakout sessions covering diverse subjects. Sessions included insights into new JASON Learning curricula, such as technology-driven STEM modules, energy education collaborations, early childhood STEM programs, and career exploration collections. Additionally, sessions covered important topics like differentiation strategies for learners, recycling contests, STEM certification requirements, community engagement, educational leadership, and project-based learning.
At JNC, JASON Learning recognized outstanding individuals and institutions for their contributions to STEM education. Les Owen, Founder of Treehouse Dreams Films, was acknowledged for his Telly Award-winning collaboration with JASON Learning in creating “The Waterman” short film. Xandra Williams-Earlie, Program Director of High School Science for Aldine Independent School District, was honored for her leadership in STEM education, and Dr. Juliana Texley, Early Childhood Expert and Author, was honored for her early childhood STEM curriculum development and contributions to STEM.
JASON Learning’s National Conference 2023 was a resounding success, bringing together educators, industry leaders, and experts in a collaborative environment. The conference showcased the importance of STEM education in preparing students for future pathways and careers.
