Design Thinking Ambassadors

Jason Learning partners with Chevron to inspire students and encourage community engagement throughout Texas.

The Design Thinking Ambassador Program

presented by Chevron and JASON Learning

The Design Thinking Ambassadors program prepares educators to become STEM leaders and role models by connecting them with talented STEM professionals in their community to collaborate on future projects and Design Thinking Challenges. Thanks to support from Chevron, twenty-four educators will participate as ambassadors in the Fall 2021 session of this program.

By building a roster of Design Thinking Ambassadors with local connections and business leaders, youth will be able to solve problems that build a better and resilient Houston community. JASON also highlights the fact that the Fall 2021 session will include in-person site visits and involved learning opportunities, putting innovation in action. Previously, the Spring 2021 session, which was exclusive to the Aldine district, was entirely virtual.

Design Thinking Ambassador Program Details

The challenges that Houstonians face are increasing in size, frequency and complexity.  How can we work together to create a Greater Houston area where all individuals regardless of age, gender, race and socioeconomic status thrive instead of merely surviving?  JASON Learning created the Design Thinking Ambassador Program to support school districts and educators in their efforts to develop STEM literate students who are able to effectively influence decision makers and advocate for themselves and their communities.  Released in the Spring of 2020, the Resilient Houston framework is used as a resource to identify goals and challenge areas for the Greater Houston area.

JASON Learning Design Thinking Ambassadors will engage and collaborate with local STEM role models, community stakeholders, JASON Learning staff and other Design Thinking Ambassadors to:

  • Create a Design Thinking Challenge for their students that increases community resilience in the greater Houston area.
  • Advocate for Design Thinking Learning Opportunities by sharing your experience with peers, your district and potentially at the state and national level.
  • Engage their students with local STEM role models
  • Build STEM Literacy by developing the knowledge and skills needed to become a visionary STEM leader and agent of change in their communities.
  • Earn 10 hours of Professional Development Credit through synchronous and asynchronous collaborative sessions and individual work.

Design Thinking Challenge

JASON Learning Design Thinking Ambassadors will collaborate with local STEM role models, community stakeholders, JASON staff, and one another to create a Design Thinking Challenge for their students that will increase community resilience, provide opportunities for students to engage with diverse community role models, earn professional development credit, and develop the knowledge and skills needed to become a visionary leader and agent of change in their community as they build and advocate for STEM literacy.
